Legend has it that coffee was "discovered" by a goatherd named Kaldi, or, rather, by his goats. One day, when the goats did not come in response to his piped call, Kaldi found them romping in a frenzy, nibbling the berries and leaves of a bush that he did not recognize. The next day, satisfied that the goats hadn't poisoned themselves - they ran directly to the same bush and began eating and dancing again - he tried chewing on the strange leaves and berries himself. Soon he was dancing, too.
